Nattokinase
Morning
Nattokinase is a serine protease enzyme derived from natto, a traditional Japanese food made by fermenting soybeans with Bacillus subtilis. It has been extensively studied for its fibrinolytic (clot-dissolving) properties and is one of the few dietary enzymes shown to survive digestion and exert systemic effects on blood clot metabolism.
Research Evidence
Breaks down fibrin and supports healthy blood clot dissolution
StrongMay help maintain healthy blood pressure levels
ModeratePotential anti-atherosclerotic effects on arterial plaque
LimitedSupports healthy circulation and blood flow
ModerateMay reduce blood viscosity and improve rheological properties
ModerateSafety & Cautions
Side Effects
- Potential for increased bleeding or bruising
- Mild gastrointestinal discomfort
- Possible drop in blood pressure in sensitive individuals
Nattokinase is generally well-tolerated at standard doses. However, it should not be combined with anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications (such as warfarin or aspirin) without medical supervision, and it should be discontinued before scheduled surgeries due to its blood-thinning effects.
